Get Involved - October 2025

Here’s the information you need to get involved this week.

First, give your feedback via the Redistricting Community Survey for St. Mary’s County Public Schools. The redistricting process is just beginning, so your input is crucial in the development of a proposal. To take the survey, visit www.smcps.org/redistricting and click on the button that says “Please take the Redistricting Community Survey 1”.

Next, don’t miss your chance to provide more feedback about the revision of the St. Mary’s County Comprehensive Plan! This document sets visions and goals to help direct residential and commercial development, water, sewer, and traffic infrastructure, land preservation, and more. Once revised, the Comprehensive Plan becomes a guideline for revising the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance, the set of laws governing how and where development happens. Provide your comments by visiting https://www.stmaryscountymd.gov/StMarys2050/GetInvolved/ and clicking on the “Participate Now” button.

On Monday, October 6th at 5:00 pm, Senator Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) and Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) are hosting a Telephone Town Hall to answer your questions and provide an update on “efforts to end the Republican shutdown, support federal employees and contractors, stop Trump's illegal withholding of funds, and prevent a huge spike in health care costs.”

Register to paritcipate in the town hall here. The deadline is October 6th, at noon. You can watch the livestream here: https://www.vanhollen.senate.gov/live

St. Mary’s County Commissioners

Finally, on Tuesday, October 7th at 6:30pm, the St. Mary’s County Commissioners will meet with the St. Mary’s County Delegation to discuss legislative proposals. Commissioners will review ideas they’ve proposed and the need for borrowing authority to finance capital improvement projects. Members of the Delegation will preview any legislation they intend to file. The meeting is open to the public, and attendees will have the chance to address the elected officials. Read the news release here.
